Everyone who starts an online or office business must have a never ending flow of pre-qualified prospects to market their business. There are two main methods of gaining these pre-qualified prospects; Local market and professional lead generation companies. The fastest method of finding pre-qualified prospects is by hiring a professional lead company that provides these targeted prospects for your business.

One question you need to ask yourself and the owner of any lead generation company you hire is “how are the leads generate?

The top tier professional lead generation companies use what I call a macro-marketing campaign to generate their databases. Macro-marketing is just another way of saying “they use all types of marketing methods simultaneously; the internet, email, telemarketing, ad campaigns, and direct mailing. The top few will then put their new prospects through a series of filters using proprietary software programs to provide you with the specific pre-qualified prospect you have requested.

I have been in network marketing profession close to 25 years and the last seven have been in the lead generation business with four of those seven running the world’s largest lead generation company to the network marketing arena. I have seen the good, bad and the ugly of lead companies. Some over promise and under deliver, while a handful have over delivered and under promised.

The 7 Dirty Secrets I am about to share are specific to mlm email leads and the companies short cut the processes created to deliver a solid email lead.

Dirty Secret 1 “Receive 50 FREE Leads to try out with no obligation”

There are several companies who love to offer free leads to everyone who gives their company a try. First, the leads that you get are usually very good, responsive, and often just a hours old which means the leads are “hot”. However, once you sign up for these free leads you, yourself start to receive an onslaught of emails from fellow entrepreneurs who are using the same company – In other words you become someone else’s Free Lead!

Dirty Secret 2 “We use an exclusive marketing campaign to generate our leads”

This is a bold face lie! 95% of lead companies in the business today, do not generate their own leads. Instead they do one of two things. They hire an online advertising network and buy specific data from them at wholesale. Or, they buy extra or aged data from other lead companies, which they in turn resell them to you. In this case the leads you are buying have in most cases been used and abused anywhere from 5-25 times. And you will know when this happens because your spam rate will be high, and your response rate will be significantly lower.

Dirty Secret 3 “Our leads are “Targeted” specialty to your MLM company”

One of the methods used to “capture” a perspective data is to put up what is called “pop-up or pop-under” windows on a highly ranked websites. These windows will ask if you if you want a FREE “Starbucks, Victoria’s Secret, Sears or some other card”. Before this prospect can receive the “free” card, they must first agree to receiving information from other offers. Then that company will sell this “incentized prospect” to two or more lead companies who will sell it 5 to 25 times. Now you go to a Lead Company and buy some mlm email leads. You don’t get “Targeted” email prospects, instead you get a cheap prospect who really doesn’t want to hear from you in the first place. What do you think your odds are in converting this prospect to a client or new team member?

Dirty Secret 4 “Our Leads are 24 Hours “fresh”.

90% of leads sold have been in the pipeline over 24 hours. Just the legitimate process used to generate a hot, fresh mlm email leads will take close to 24 hours. Then add in process of moving that lead to the lead company buying it, and then you buying it from them. By now we are at the 36 to 48 hour mark. The one time when this might not be true, is when the Lead company has hired an Ad network to place their own exclusive banners, landing pages and newsletters into the equation. When this happens the data is delivered directly to the lead company, and does not go through all the other processes. Make sure you read the find print on specifically what “24 hours” really means.

Almost all lead companies indicate that they offer mlm company specific leads. They do this because they will use some type of offering with the name the company or a small picture of the company product is on the landing page, banner they use the generation the lead. For example a website has a “pop-up or pop-under” window if someone is interested in a earning money part time from home and they will use a small picture that looks like the popular mangosteen juice XanGo. Then they turn around and sell you the leads stating they are XanGo specific because they used a small picture of the XanGo bottle and mentioned mangosteen. This lead is no more company specific, than someone who just filled out a generic landing page.

Dirty Secret 6 Millions of people actively searching for a home business on the Internet

Now this statement in and of itself may be true. However, there are not millions of people who are seriously committed to starting a home business. Statistics show us that 80% of the people who say they “dream of owning their own business” do just that DREAM! I can tell you first hand that out of 10,000 mlm email leads, if you implement the two mathematically laws “law of averages” and the “law of large numbers” you will get 200 people to join your online system, and 5 who will join your team. So if a company tells you they have an unlimited amount of fresh email leads coming in daily, just know this does not mean the data is fresh or really looking for a home based business.

Ok, I have shared the “Dirty” side of lead generation, now let me share how to be successful with your mlm email lead:

1. The quality of the lead has a lot to do with your quality of presenting and closing the prospect. If you keep jumping from one lead company to another because the leads suck. It might be time to take a good look at your delivery.

2. Success with leads has more to do with sifting and sorting, than it does with quality of the data. If you are buying cheap email leads so you get the most quantity for your dollars, then expect it to take 3 to 6 months before you see the results you are looking for. The average marketing campaign takes 6 to 9 months before you will see results. The best mlm email leads in the world will do you no good if you aren’t using a quality email series an a reliable delivery system.

3. A quality generic mlm email lead (Sold once or twice within 45 days, and never more than 5 times over a 9 month period) is a good lead to start with if you are using a reputable autoresponder system. If you can afford to generate quality leads yourself then do it. Just remember that is not duplicable for the majority of your team.
