A couple of days ago, Nu Skin released their second-quarter results, and the future is still very promising for the company shareholders and the distributors. I find this very positive, since it seems we are still watching the short-sellers try and discredit publicly traded direct selling companies.

NU SKIN ENTERPRISES UPDATES SECOND-QUARTER RESULTS AND RAISES 2013 GUIDANCE
Company announces date for full second-quarter earnings
PROVO, Utah — July 9, 2013 — Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: NUS) today announced a significant increase to estimated revenue and earnings per share for the second quarter of 2013. Revenue is now estimated to be about $680 million, with estimated earnings per share of approximately $1.20. Foreign currency fluctuations negatively impacted second-quarter revenue by approximately 3 percent. Prior revenue guidance was $570 to $580 million, with earnings per share guidance of $0.91 to $0.95.
Additionally, the company announced that it is increasing its full-year 2013 revenue guidance by $320 million to $2.83 to $2.86 billion, including a negative 5 percent impact from foreign currency fluctuations. The company now expects 2013 earnings to be $4.85 to $5.00 per share.
“Our second-quarter results reflect the strong momentum of our business,” stated Truman Hunt, president and chief executive officer. “After a record 2012 that included impressive ageLOC product launches in the second quarter, we continue to generate healthy gains throughout our global business, particularly in the Greater China, North Asia and Americas regions.
“We look forward to sharing full second-quarter results with our shareholders on Aug. 1 during our quarterly conference call. In addition, we will provide updates on our expectations for the remainder of the year, which include the limited-time introduction of our new ageLOC TR90 weight management system in September and October. We continue to expect this product introduction to be the largest in our history and anticipate a net impact of approximately $380 to $400 million from TR90 sales in the second half of the year,” concluded Hunt.
Nu Skin will release its full second-quarter 2013 results prior to the market opening on Thursday, Aug. 1. The Nu Skin management team will host a conference call with the investment community later that same day beginning at 11 a.m. (EDT). The webcast of the conference call, including the financial information to be presented, will be available on the investor section of the company’s web site at www.nuskin.com. A replay of the webcast will be available at the same location through Aug. 15, 2013. (Click Here To Read Full Press Release)
Over at Cosmetics Design, Simon Pitman also wrote an opt-ed piece which shares some additional details. What I found interesting in his piece is where the bulk of Nu Skin’s revenues come from.
Although the company is headquartered in the US and a global player, most of its revenues are derived from the Asia Pacific region, and more specifically the China market, where it has ridden a wave of strong growth in the cosmetics and personal care category.
The Utah-based skin care and nutritional supplements provider said that it was anticipating a ‘significant increase to estimated revenue and earnings per share for the second quarter of 2013’.
This week’s network marketing news is full of some great news on new and old direct selling companies. If you have not heard what is up at At Home, Loving Works, paperly, Jordan Essentials or Aloette then just keep reading.
Launching an independent business can seem a daunting task for many; however, countless direct selling companies across the U.S. work tirelessly to ensure that independent representatives—both new and long-standing with their companies—recognize they are not alone in their endeavors to succeed.
“Because networkers often work a great deal from home, having an opportunity to interact with peers removes the sense that one has to do everything by oneself,” said AJ Deeds, President of Loving Works. “Sharing ideas, modeling advanced techniques and brainstorming solutions to common challenges all add value to a distributor who can then see herself as part of something larger than her home office. Online and in-person training and corporate-sponsored shows where local distributors are invited to participate in corporate meetings are used to bring distributors together to interact and share stories of what is working and what needs improvement.” (Read on and see what Loving Works, Jordan Essentials, Love Works, Paperly, and Aloette executives have to say…)

The millennials—the first generation to come of age in the 21st century—are also known as Generation Y, or simply Gen Y, because they follow on the heels of Generation X. Whatever you call them, they now comprise the entire 18- to 32-year-old young professional demographic.
This group is easily the most important marketing concern to come along in decades, and by 2017 their spending is expected to surpass that of the boomers. As Jason Dorsey, The Gen Y Guy® speaker and consultant, points out concerning his generation, “We are the opportunity!”
Entrepreneurs tend to emerge more from the ranks of the young than from those who are older, and with good reason. There’s all that vim and vigor of youth. They typically don’t have much wealth, and many haven’t yet started their families. That means most of them don’t have much to lose, and even if they do, so what? They have the rest of their lives ahead of them.
Generation Y’s streak of entrepreneurial tendencies runs even wider and deeper than that of previous generations. The relative peace and prosperity of the economic times in which they were raised has allowed education and technology to flourish. Rather than their parents having to struggle to survive, as was the case for several of the previous generations, Gen Y has been raised in households that, by and large, have been afforded the opportunity to thrive.
So how has Gen Y been generating its own employment? Freelancing or contract work has appealed to some, allowing them to be in control of their own work schedule. Gen Yers have also started new businesses at a much higher rate than that of any previous generation. And why not? Their entrepreneurial tendencies are strong, and with brains in their heads and their parents still paying for the shoes on their feet, they have the confidence to strike out on their own. Avon and Oriflame were the two companies that disappointed their investors the most. Avon’s net sales increased by 7% during the first three quarters in 2011. The growth slowed down in the last quarter to 6% but the situation in unit sales was even worse as there was a 5% decline there.
