Phil and Shawn Kelly launched CEM around the same time Kevin Lehmann launched ProSTEP. For many years both companies worked side by side in supporting the Network marketing community with high quality lead generation.

In 2005, when ProSTEP closed its doors, Phil and Cutting Edge Media climbed to the top as the World’s #1 Lead Generation Company. They expanded their operation to Salt Lake City (The World Capital of MLM Companies).

Over the last few years, CEM has expanded its publishing empire to include some of the most recognized names in Home Based Business Magazines:

Opportunity Connection
Simply Home
True Wealth
Home Business

Under Phil’s leadership this small two man operation became a multi-million dollar success story.

Phil’s original vision was to make CEM the leading provider of marketing, advertising, and lead generation solutions for the home business industry.

there is no doubt in my mind, his vision will live on!!!

Phil R.I.P… We will miss you!

Our hearts go out to Phil’s family and his extended family at Cutting Edge media.

For all of you who knew Phil or want to pass along your heart felt responses. Please do so in the comments and we’ll pass them along.

  1. Jack,

I fully understand where you are coming from. Phil and I were friendly competitors for years. He was a true gentleman and giver.

    Living An EPic Adventure,

  2. WOW, I just heard about this. My name is Jack Baugher, former owner of S&J Products and Services and Security Plus and Boulder Telecom. Phil and I started our biz concepts and ideas about the same time around 89-90 and he was nice enough to feature me in his publications and decks. We had many nice conversations over the years and I will TRUELY miss him! Jack Baugher

  3. Phil L. Rest in Peace my friend. I am shocked and saddened to hear of this, I’ve know him since 1989. You will be missed!!! Life is so short 🙁

    Carl Ramallo

  4. The man had a zest for life like no other. His smile and hearty laugh will be remembered by many. Phil was one of those guys who changed lives by just being Phil. I wish him peace. We are all better off for having known him.

  5. Kevin,

having seen the interaction between you and Phil both as business competitors, and as friends, and was able to see a true friendship and respect you both had for each other.

Kevin, I know you have been very busy since your retirement as an active leader in Network marketing, thank you for stopping by to share.

    Never Give Up,

  6. I am saddened to hear about the passing of Phil Longenecker, a long time friend, competitor, and fellow visionary in the direct marketing/MLM profession.

I had the good fortune of spending personal time with Phil as we had a mutual respect for each others approach to creating innovative, pioneering, and standardized systems aimed at leveling the playing field for any and all people who chose direct marketing/ MLM as the vehicle to achieve their hopes and dreams.

Few people knew the compassion, love, and unselfishness of this extraordinary man. Ecompetitors, Phil

  7. Mark, I agree 100%. This just shows us that time is way to short not to let those we love know it all the time.

After seeing some of the things I have seen in life, and realizing somewhere in the USA as I write this a child or teen is being kidnapped into Child Sex Trafficking, it just doesn’t matter.

We pray for all, and let God sort it out in the end.

  8. Troy, it is sad when any leader, corporate or field, leaves us, especially in an untimely manner. I have seen more than enough of that in almost three decades in our profession.
It is also sad that the human condition causes some to make outrageous comments. Instead of projecting their behavior onto others character, perhaps they would be better served by looking in the mirror.

  9. Having been around this industry for close to 3 decades, like you Troy, I find it sad to lose a leader, field corporate or otherwise.
I also find it true of the human condition, that some people project their character defects onto others. Perhaps those who comment in a hurtful way would be better served by looking in the mirror.

  10. Chris,

Thank you for commenting. Your words ring so true. So many people in leads, markeitng and training got their start because Phil saw something in them and gave them a chance.

Again, thank you for sharing during this time.

  12. Troy…your comments are appreciated and genuine. For those who didn’t know Phil, you were missing something and to post a comment like Jason did is regretable when someone is hurting over the loss of a friend and colleague. I have known Phil for the last seven years and owe him a lot in my life. Phil hired me to help with sales for Cutting Edge Press, the printing and direct mail division of Cutting Edge Media. He was a great man who improved the lives of everyone around him. He will be greatly missed.

  13. Here is the reply I sent via email to Jason.

I don’t have a clue who you are, or what your issue is really all about. However, Phil and I go way back and I have been doing business with him Bob Lindsey and Bobby Schwartz for years.

I don’t need traffic, and that is one of the most uneducated comments I have read.

If you and I have met and you don’t like me great, but if you really have a bone to pick then pick up the phone tomorrow and call me directly.

Otherwise, fully understand that Phil has tens of thousands of people who would not receive this information if those of us who did care for him did not get the info out. Most of us still have on going relationships with Cutting Edge staff.

    Never Give Up,
